Look at the action, not just the brand name
Grammarly’s official overview describes proofreading, paraphrasing, reader feedback, and humanizing assistance. These activities make different changes to a draft. Correcting a typo is a narrower intervention than generating a new paragraph.
When describing your process, name the action you used. “I accepted spelling suggestions” and “I used generated paragraphs” give a reader more information than a general statement that a writing app was involved.
Grammarly: writing assistance overview ↗Check the rules for the context
A course, employer, or publisher may distinguish between proofreading and generating text. Read the rules that apply to your work and ask for clarification when they do not define a relevant case. This guide does not determine whether a particular use is permitted.
Keep a record of the original draft and substantial revisions when you need to explain your process. The name of the tool alone does not show how much assistance a passage received.
Review what the revised sentence now says
Even a small suggested change can alter emphasis or certainty. Check the meaning before accepting it. For factual writing, compare claims with the evidence; for personal writing, check that the wording still reflects what you intend.
