01

Give the scene a goal and a consequence

A useful scene brief names the viewpoint character, what they want, what blocks them, and what changes by the end. Add the facts the next passage must preserve. This gives you a standard for judging the result.

For brainstorming, ask for several possible conflicts instead of a complete story. Choose the one you want to develop, then decide what it reveals about the character.

02

Compare outputs against the same scene brief

Score each version for continuity, viewpoint, character motivation, and whether the scene changes the situation. Look for dialogue that advances the conflict rather than explaining everything to the reader.

Sudowrite’s official site describes fiction-focused assistance. Canva also publishes a story-generator page. Those links provide product context; this guide does not claim a tested winner or confirm that a particular free allowance will fit your project.

Check access conditions before planning around a free tier

A free tool may have a trial, usage cap, account requirement, or paid features. Check those conditions on the provider’s current page. A keyword containing “free” or “unlimited” is not evidence of a product entitlement.

Keep your own notes and copies of scenes. After generating a draft, revise the passages that sound generic and check that the characters still make choices that belong to your story.

A few useful answers.

Which free AI story writer is best?+

That depends on the task and current access limits. Use the same scene brief to compare candidates and verify their official terms before choosing.

Can a story generator maintain character continuity?+

Do not assume it will. Provide a reference sheet and review names, motivations, knowledge, and timing after each scene.

How do I make a generated scene feel less generic?+

Add character-specific aims and constraints, then replace broad descriptions with details that matter to the conflict.
