01

Define the edit and the reader

OpenAI’s prompting guidance emphasizes a clear outcome, useful context, and boundaries. For rewriting, turn those into a short brief: explain the audience, choose a revision goal, and identify facts that should remain unchanged.

For example: “Rewrite this update for a new customer in plain English. Keep the delivery date and the two conditions unchanged. Return one paragraph.” Then add the text to revise. This is an original example prompt, not a promise of an exact response.

02

Ask for a focused second pass

Review the first result before adding more instructions. If the wording is clearer but too formal, ask for a warmer tone while keeping the facts. If it removes a qualification, point to that detail and ask for it to be restored.

For a story passage, specify viewpoint and what the character knows. For a report, keep quantities and uncertainty fixed. A small revision request is easier to evaluate than repeatedly asking for an entirely better version.

03

Compare the result with the source

Check names, dates, numbers, conditions, and the strength of every claim. A revision can sound more certain than the text you supplied. Keep your original visible so that a smooth sentence does not hide a changed meaning.

Use the output as a draft you control. When the source includes another author’s ideas, preserve attribution. This guide does not require a particular model, paid plan, or account feature.

A few useful answers.

What should a ChatGPT rewriting prompt include?+

State the audience, the change you want, the expected format, and the details that must remain. Add only constraints that matter.

Can I ask for several versions?+

Yes. Give each version a clear purpose, such as concise or friendly, then compare them with the original before choosing.

Is this site an official ChatGPT rewriter?+

No. This is an independent writing guide. Official prompting guidance is linked as a source.
